Matar Paneer Recipe

This North Indian dish features peas and paneer in a spiced tomato-based sauce. Ingredients for North Indian Matar Paneer

  • 2-3 tomatoes
  • 1 inch ginger
  • 1 green chili pepper
  • 300 gr paneer
  • 1 tsp. cumin
  • 2 bay leaves
  • A stick of cinnamon
  • 2  cloves
  • 1 tbsp. Ground coriander
  • 0.5 tsp. Turmeric
  • 1 tsp. Paprika
  • 1/2 tsp. red chilli powder
  • 1 tsp. Salt
  • 300 gr peas
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup water

How to Make Matar Paneer

  1. Blend the tomatoes, ginger, green chili pepper
  2. Cut the paneer into cubes about 1 inch and fry them in vegetable oil until golden brown. Leave to cool
  3. In a frying pan, warm the oil, add 1 tsp. seeds, then add bay leaves, cinnamon, cloves. Fry all this for about a minute.
  4. Then add the tomato puree, coriander, turmeric, paprika, red chilli powder and salt. Mix and reduce the fire to medium and let it cook 3-5 minutes.
  5. Add peas, paneer, water, sugar (if desired) and let it cook for 3-5 minutes.
  6. Add the cornstarch, mix, cook 2-3 minutes.
