Ingredients for Kanda Poha


  • 2 cups thick poha
  • 1 medium-sized onion
  • ½ cup peanuts
  • 3 green chilies
  • 3-4 red chilies
  • 1 tbsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tbsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tbsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • ½ cup coriander leaves, finely chopped
  • Oil for frying

How to Make Kanda Poha

  1. Place poha in a deep bowl and add enough water to cover. Soak for 3-4 minutes. Drain and gently press with your hands. Set aside.
  2. In a large frying pan, heat up three tablespoons of oil over medium-high heat. Add cumin seeds and mustard seeds. Cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly. Now add onions and continue to cook for 2 more minutes, stirring occasionally. Finally, add green chilies, red chilies, peanuts, and turmeric powder. Reduce the heat to low and continue to cook for 4-5 minutes, stirring constantly.
  3. Add poha and give it a good stir. Remove from the heat and cover with a lid. Let it stand for 10 minutes before serving.
  4. Sprinkle with finely chopped coriander and serve.
